As the global leader in offshore wind, Ørsted has constructed 27 offshore wind farms in Europe since 1991 and installed more than 1,600 wind turbines in the sea. Currently we have around 9.9GW offshore wind projects constructed and under construction, including the world’s largest offshore wind farm Hornsea 1 & 2 in the UK.
In Asia, we have invested and own 35% of Taiwan’s first offshore wind farm – Formosa 1, which will be 128MW after completion. We also have exclusive rights to develop four Greater Changhua projects, 35 to 60 kilometers off the Changhua coast. The four projects, with a maximum capacity of 2.4GW, have passed the full environmental impact assessment and are now in the grid permitting process. They will be completed between 2021 to 2025.
In Japan, Ørsted has partnerships with TEPCO Renewable Power in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture and with Japan Wind Development (JWD) and Eurus Energy in Akita Prefecture to further contribute to the development of offshore wind in Japan, bidding into the Noshiro/Mitane/Oga Offshore Wind Farm and the Yurihonjo Offshore Wind Farm. With these three projects, Ørsted, along with its partners, have submitted three bids on 27th May, 2021 into Japan’s first fixed-bottom offshore wind auction.
