The Green Energy Scholarship Program (GESP) opened for applications in spring 2023 and has awarded the first five scholarships to students who aspire to have careers in renewable energy.
This year, the first year of the programme, five students from Kisarazu College, Akita College and Akita Prefectural University have been selected to receive scholarships. This includes three male students and two female students. Ørsted has previously launched scholarship programmes in the US and Taiwan, and this is the first time a green energy scholarship programme has been implemented in Japan.
Henriette Holm, Country Manager of Ørsted Japan, says:
“As the global leader in offshore wind, Ørsted is committed to creating opportunities for the next generation of offshore wind professionals. Our vision for this programme is to inspire and support young talent in Japan to expand their knowledge and expertise in renewable energy. We hope these scholarships lead to future career opportunities in this new sector for Japan.”
Izumi Tanaka, Senior Commercial Officer, Royal Danish Embassy, says:
“Denmark is an environmentally conscious country aiming for 100% renewable energy by 2050. The Royal Danish Embassy also considers the development of human resources to be extremely important for the growth of renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in Japan. We hope that the scholarship programme we are running with Ørsted will motivate the students who will support Japan's future to become familiar with and learn about renewable energy.”
