About us

Change the wind

The Japanese word for wind, 「風」, uses characters that also mean “old custom”.

But some old customs need to change. Like using fossil fuels to power our lives. We want to help create a new custom, and change the way you see the wind.

By far the largest contributor to climate change is energy usage, with more than 80 % of the world’s energy consumption still based on fossil fuels. This needs to change.

Ørsted has transformed from an oil and gas company to the world’s most sustainable energy company and the global leader in offshore wind energy. That’s the world we’re helping to build through our renewable energy solutions such as offshore wind, onshore wind, solar energy, hydrogen and sustainable biomass.

The wind that blows through the sea and shakes the trees will lead us to create a world that runs entirely on green energy.

Japan’s energy future starts with offshore wind.

Making Japan greener

Ørsted is a renewable energy company that takes tangible action to create a world that runs entirely on green energy.

Ørsted’s international headquarters are in Denmark, the country where we built the world’s first offshore wind farm in 1991. Since then, we’ve undergone a dramatic transformation from an energy company based primarily on fossil fuels to the world’s largest offshore wind company – and have been ranked the world’s most sustainable energy company three years running.

We develop, build, operate, and own offshore wind farms across Europe, and in North America and Asia. In recent years, we’ve expanded into onshore wind, solar power and energy storage, while pioneering the renewable technologies of tomorrow, such as green hydrogen.

We are contributing to Japan's transition to green energy

By 2025, we aim to power 30 million people with offshore wind. For our local operations in Japan, we want to be a reliable and long-term partner for local businesses, stakeholders and governments.

With over 30 years of experience in offshore wind, Ørsted is committed to support Japan in its ambitious renewable growth targets, and to develop a new and vibrant industry that will generate new jobs and opportunities for coastal Japanese communities.

Could our green transformation inspire yours?

Ørsted was once one of the most coal-intensive energy companies in Europe. Today, we’re the world’s most sustainable energy company, and a global leader in the transition to green energy.
